8 June 2026 – Lliber Zoo

22 of us walking today

Only one cancellation because of the heat

I had expected more to cancel

Once more I changed the walk because of the weather forecast

We should have done Lliber to Senija

But that is a much longer walk and no option to cut it short

This one has more road climbing

But also has the option of cutting it short by following the road into Lliber

There was a lot more shade than I expected

And once more we had a water stop every half hour

The walk was certainly not as challenging as I feared it might be

So when we got to the banana break I decided to take the full route

This involves following the track around the hill back to Lliber

I was quite surprised that we finished the walk in exactly three hours

Our numbers were boosted by four non residents

Duncan and Marilyn are here for the rest of June

As also are Julie and Don

Both couples have been walking with us for some time

And it is always nice to be able to welcome them back during their visit

I often remark that the constant chatter makes any walk less challenging than when walking alone

This also seems to apply to walking when the temperatures are higher

I think we all managed the walk without any real problems

We did a small detour to the village cemetery as we approached Lliber

We have been before, but some of the group had not

It is a lovely, peaceful place

Always clean and tidy, unlike many of the overgrown ones in the UK

Once more we visited bar Placa at the end of the walk

They have a lovely, well shaded outside area

Once more we were the only ones using it

So we could spread out and not disturb other customers

They always make us feel very welcome

And it is a very pleasant way to relax after the walk.

Temperature – 21 to 29c

Time taken – 3 hours

Distance – 9km

1 June 2026 – Jalon to Alcalali

19 of us walking today

This included Paul and Kathryn who have been on holiday since 4 May

The weather has been much hotter than normal for this time of year

So I changed the planned walk to this easier one

There is more shade, and I can shorten it if necessary

We had a water stop every half hour

And choose shaded areas for each stop

Jan ensured that I kept the pace down

And everyone reached the ermita without any problem

There is always plenty of shade and even an inside and outside option

Jim could not join the walk, but sent a bag of sweets with Pierre to distribute

Tina’s contribution was her water sprayer, which was very popular

Unusual sight of a rider on foot leading her horse

We had slightly longer than usual for our banana stop to fully recover

Because the return journey is very exposed and expected to be very hot

Most accepted Tina’s offer of a cooling water spray

And we had a cooling breeze for most of the return journey

Mike organised the drinks when we reached Casa Claudia

And Wally joined us for the after walk drink

Another very enjoyable walk, despite the higher temperatures

Temperature – 26 to 30c

Time taken – 3 hours

Distance – 9km
