15 June 2026 – Alcalali to Parcent

26 walking today

I had expected the numbers to drop at the temperatures rose

But it is nice that so many want to continue to walk each week despite the heat

We have adjusted to the higher temperatures as best we can

I am trying to find routes which do not involve hills or too much exposure

It is also important to have some shade for our half hour water stops

And even more for our longer banana stops

The font at Parcent is one such, with lots of shade

And Alcalali Ermita is another

It does mean that we use both a lot

But that is better than the alternative

It was nice to have Martin walking with us again

His last walk was about 18 months ago

I liked his response to my question why he came back after so long

He said he was because we seemed to be having so much fun on Facebook

We also had a couple of visitors

I agreed the visitors when it seemed not many regulars would be walking

When the late replies came in I was not prepared to cancel the visitors

It is nice that so many want to walk with the group

But it does cause problems too

We are welcome at less bars, and find it difficult to sit together as a group

This is a shame as I feel it is very important to maintain a friendly and inclusive group

It also makes it more difficult to coordinate payment of one group bill

For the second week the bill was larger than the cash collected.

We will have to review how we handle the bar in future

Temperature – 22 to 29c

Time taken – 3 hours

Distance – 9km

8 June 2026 – Lliber Zoo

22 of us walking today

Only one cancellation because of the heat

I had expected more to cancel

Once more I changed the walk because of the weather forecast

We should have done Lliber to Senija

But that is a much longer walk and no option to cut it short

This one has more road climbing

But also has the option of cutting it short by following the road into Lliber

There was a lot more shade than I expected

And once more we had a water stop every half hour

The walk was certainly not as challenging as I feared it might be

So when we got to the banana break I decided to take the full route

This involves following the track around the hill back to Lliber

I was quite surprised that we finished the walk in exactly three hours

Our numbers were boosted by four non residents

Duncan and Marilyn are here for the rest of June

As also are Julie and Don

Both couples have been walking with us for some time

And it is always nice to be able to welcome them back during their visit

I often remark that the constant chatter makes any walk less challenging than when walking alone

This also seems to apply to walking when the temperatures are higher

I think we all managed the walk without any real problems

We did a small detour to the village cemetery as we approached Lliber

We have been before, but some of the group had not

It is a lovely, peaceful place

Always clean and tidy, unlike many of the overgrown ones in the UK

Once more we visited bar Placa at the end of the walk

They have a lovely, well shaded outside area

Once more we were the only ones using it

So we could spread out and not disturb other customers

They always make us feel very welcome

And it is a very pleasant way to relax after the walk.

Temperature – 21 to 29c
